Welcome to our latest issue, Month At A Glance (June 2026), where we give a quick rundown of the latest happenings and significant milestones in the Tezos ecosystem on a monthly cadence.
June highlighted the different sides of the Tezos ecosystem, with activity spanning protocol development, applications, real-world use cases, and community initiatives. As the network continued to improve its foundations, builders, creators, and community members continued finding new ways to build, experiment, and collaborate across Tezos.
Let’s break it all down.

Ushuaia Activation: Tezos’ 21st Protocol Upgrade Goes Live #

Starting with probably the biggest news of the month, the Ushuaia protocol upgrade was activated on June 30th, marking Tezos’ 21st successful on-chain upgrade. The latest upgrade continues to push forward the network’s scaling capabilities, with improvements focused on the Data Availability Layer (DAL), Smart Rollups, and the broader Tezos X roadmap.
One of the main highlights of Ushuaia is an increase in DAL bandwidth, helping Smart Rollups access and process more data as activity grows across the ecosystem. The upgrade also introduces improvements such as dynamic DAL attestation lag and further rollup-aligned PVM upgrades, continuing to improve the infrastructure behind Tezos’ scaling efforts.
Alongside the mainnet activation, several features were made available on testnet for experimentation, including quantum-resistant user keys (ML-DSA-44) and enshrined liquid staking with sTEZ. While these are not yet live on mainnet, they give developers and the community an early look at what could come in future upgrades.

Metals.io Adds Nickel and Cobalt to Its Tokenized Metals Platform #

It wasn’t too long ago that Metals.io was introduced to the Tezos ecosystem, bringing tokenized access to physical metals like gold, uranium, and a basket of rare earth elements, while promising to expand the platform with more assets over time. That expansion started in June, with Metals.io adding nickel and cobalt as the latest metals available on the platform.
Both metals are heavily used in industries such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, and advanced technology. With these additions, users can now gain exposure to a wider selection of physical metals through Metals.io, alongside the assets that were already available at launch.
The platform allows users to access verified physical metals with 24/7 trading, no minimum investment requirements, and without traditional settlement delays. As Metals.io continues to expand its offering, it adds another example of real-world assets being brought on-chain through the Tezos ecosystem.
Tezos Turned 8! #

In June, Tezos turned 8 years old, marking another milestone in the network’s journey since mainnet launched in 2018. Over the past eight years, Tezos has evolved through 21 protocol upgrades, thousands of community-driven proposals, and a growing ecosystem of builders, creators, and users.
From pioneering self-amending governance to becoming one of the most upgraded networks in the space, Tezos has continued to follow its own path. Throughout its journey, the ecosystem has expanded across many different verticals, with builders exploring everything from digital art and gaming to real-world assets, infrastructure, and new applications powered by Tezos.
The anniversary was also a chance to look back at some of the key moments that shaped Tezos’ history, from the launch of mainnet and the early protocol upgrades to the milestones that helped define where the ecosystem is today.
To celebrate the occasion, we took a look back at 8 key moments from Tezos’ history that stood out along the way, highlighting some of the milestones, upgrades, and developments that have been part of the network’s evolution.
